Day Visitors

Want to experience the von Trapp Family Lodge & Resort while not staying here overnight? During the spring, summer, and fall we welcome visitors to join us for the day by either (1) Purchasing a property pass and exploring on your own or (2) Signing up for a tour with one of our knowledgeable guides. All tours include a property pass for the rest of the day.

With your property pass you will be able to experience the beauty of our 2,600 acre resort. A Property Pass allows you to stroll the lush gardens, visit the famous Scottish Highland Cows and Katahdin Sheep, access our peaceful stone chapel, view the family cemetery, check out the Sugarhouse, or go for an easy (or hard!) hike or mountain bike ride on any of our trails.

von Trapp Family Lodge & Resort is private so all non-overnight guests are required to have a property pass. A property pass does not include access to our Fitness Center, Pools or Disc Golf and does not include overnight guest offerings like tea and cookies, ice cream socials, and campfire s'mores. A pass is not required to visit shops and restaurants.

When winter comes, we move to winter Trail Passes for snowshoeing and cross country skiing. We have wonderful tour offerings in the winter, but in the winter passes for the rest of the day are not included with tours. More information on our winter offerings and trail passes may be found here.

See the Animals

Introduced in 1963 by Johannes von Trapp, our Scottish Highland cow herd has become an iconic part of the landscape. We also have a flock of Katahdin sheep, honeybees, and more. Join a year-round Meet the Cows tour or seasonal Meet the Sheep tour to see them up close and learn more about their role on property and how we care for them.

Walk to the Chapel

Take a short but steep hike to the Chapel that Werner von Trapp and other members of the family built after his return from WWII with the 10th Mountain Division. Werner had promised to build a chapel if he survived and upon his return he set to work and eventually dedicated the Chapel to Mary, Our Lady of Peace. You are welcome to go inside and ring the bell.
