Take a hike — Trapp style — through the many miles of meadows and country roads at von Trapp Family Lodge & Resort. We offer more than 35 miles of wooded hiking trails where hikers of all levels of ability can enjoy breathtaking views and lush greenery. Go backpacking through our trails on your own or take a guided nature walk and learn about native plants, wildlife, and the evolving landscape of Vermont.

Stowe Area Hiking

In the Stowe area, you can explore numerous hiking trails like Hunger Mountain, Stowe Pinnacle, and the Long Trail running over Mount Mansfield (Vermont's highest peak). These trails and many more are just a few minutes from the resort.

Wildflower Walk


When Spring is here and the wildflowers are out, join Trapp Family Lodge guides on this fun and easy walk. Be sure to wear appropriate footwear for varied off-trail terrain and possible mud. Meet at the Outdoor Center a few minutes early.

Chapel Hike


Enjoy a short but steep hike to the chapel that Werner von Trapp and other members of the family built. We’ll head into the lovely woods behind our Lodge to explore this important von Trapp landmark. Meet at the Outdoor Center 10 minutes early.

Hike to Slayton Pasture Cabin


The hike to Slayton Pasture Cabin is six miles, round trip. The first half is very rigorous and uphill. We will be resting at the cabin, a favorite resting spot for cross-country skiers in the winter. Bring plenty of water and a snack for the break. Appropriate footwear and clothing are highly recommended. This hike is not recommended for children under seven. Meet at the Outdoor Center 10 minutes early.

Learning the Forest Tour


Sitting on 2,600 acres of pure Vermont, Trapp Family Lodge is home to numerous wildlife and plant life species.  Take a guided hike through our picturesque forests to learn what makes these woods unique and sustainable.

Hike with the Goats


Join some visitors to the farm, Indigo & Sunshine, the playful Nigerian Dwarf twins for a 90-minute hike meandering up to the historic chapel. Watch the goats browse the forest floor, nibble treats from your hand, and bounce along the trail as we hike together through lovely pasture and woodlands.

Not suitable for children under 5. Closed-toe shoes are recommended. Come ready to laugh, bond with a goat, and maybe even yodel! Book Here

Bird Watching Walk


Join us as we walk the grounds with Karen Nielsen to observe some of our feathered friends in our fields and forests. Please wear sturdy footwear.
