One of the best ways to explore the Vermont countryside is to get out and ride! The von Trapp Family Lodge & Resort's 2,600 acres feature an extensive mountain bike trail network with two skills parks. Ride our eight miles of expert and intermediate single track or more than 20 miles of double track through mountains, fields, and forests. Ride Hop Over or Lager Lane to the von Trapp Brewery Bierhall — the best trailhead ever!
Check our Trail Conditions page for the latest updates and trail opening status.
We offer high-quality bike rentals through Giant Bicycles, as well as repair services and mountain bike lessons. We also have a fleet of lightweight properly proportioned Prevelo kids mountain bikes. Our mountain bike instructors are qualified to help hone your mountain bike skills or offer you mountain bike lessons for beginners right here in Stowe, Vermont. We pride ourselves on our beginner, intermediate, and expert trails here on property.
The von Trapp Family Lodge & Resort mountain bike trails connect with an even more extensive Stowe trail network. We're aligned with the Stowe Trails Partnership, which manages three distinct trail pods: Cady Hill Forest, Adams Camp, and Sterling Forest (in addition to several connector trails, including Alex’s Trail in Dumont Meadow). Each of these pods is distinct in character, with widely differing trails, views, and terrain. Many of the trails are situated on lands permanently protected under conservation easements held or managed by the Stowe Land Trust and owned by the Town of Stowe.
The von Trapp Family Lodge & Resort now welcomes Class 1 Pedal-Assist E-Bikes on our network of bike trails. We love seeing the enthusiasm from the E-biking community and are glad to open our trails to those choosing an E-bike. Please note that there are trails within the von Trapp network that are only for foot and ski traffic. Thank you for respecting the hard work of our trail crew and staying on the bike trails.
In 2025 the von Trapp Outdoor Center team completed an adaptive assessment of select trails with Vermont Adaptive, VMBA, and the Kelly Brush Foundation and with their support was able to complete work on the Greenway, Rock Tiger, Woodchuck, and Stepping Stone trails to make them Adaptive-friendly. We welcome all adaptive cyclists and would love to help you plan your route to try these fun trails.
